How to Prepare for This Panel
Preparation may vary depending on the specific tests included and instructions provided with your order. In general:
- Follow semen collection instructions carefully.
- Semen analysis usually requires a specific abstinence period before collection. Follow the instructions provided with your order.
- Avoid collecting a semen sample too soon after fever, illness, heat exposure, sauna/hot tub use, or intense lifestyle changes unless your provider advises otherwise.
- Morning collection may be preferred for testosterone, estradiol, cortisol, prolactin, and other hormone markers.
- Fasting may be recommended because this panel includes insulin, glucose-related markers, and lipid testing.
- Avoid unusually intense exercise before testing if your provider advises, especially when interpreting hormone, inflammation, or metabolic markers.
- Continue medications unless your healthcare provider tells you otherwise.
- Testosterone therapy, hormone medications, fertility medications, supplements, recent illness, alcohol use, smoking, heat exposure, prostate medications, and collection timing may affect interpretation.
- Bring or keep a list of medications, supplements, fertility history, symptoms, lifestyle factors, and prior semen analysis results to discuss during your physician consultation.
