The following is a list of what is included in the item above. Click the test(s) below to view what biomarkers are measured along with an explanation of what the biomarker is measuring.
Also known as: CBC, CBC includes Differential and Platelets, CBC/PLT w/DIFF, Complete Blood Count (includes Differential and Platelets)
NOTE: Ulta Lab Tests provides CBC test results from Quest Diagnostics as they are reported. Often, different biomarker results are made available at different time intervals. When reporting the results, Ulta Lab Tests denotes those biomarkers not yet reported as 'pending' for every biomarker the test might report. Only biomarkers Quest Diagnostics observes are incorporated and represented in the final CBC test results provided by Ulta Lab Tests.

The Baseline Biomarkers - Basic panel contains 4 tests with 62 biomarkers .

Basic Description: The Baseline Biomarkers - Basic panel is a collection of medical tests that serve as an initial screen to assess an individual's general health. The tests included in this panel can provide information on blood cell counts, metabolic function, lipid levels, and thyroid function.
Collection Method: Blood Draw ![]()
Specimen: 4 mL Whole Blood
and 3 mL SST Serum
Test Preparation: Fasting required. No food or drinks other than water for at least 9 hours before collection.

External Test Interference: If you've had a fluorescein dye test (such as for an eye exam), wait at least 3 days before having your TSH test drawn. If you are on hemodialysis, wait 2 weeks. Fluorescein can cause falsely low TSH results.
When and Why the Baseline Biomarkers - Basic Panel May Be Ordered
The Baseline Biomarkers - Basic panel is commonly ordered as a part of routine physical examinations or when an individual experiences non-specific symptoms that don't point to a specific disease. For instance, fatigue, dizziness, or general feelings of being unwell can be reasons to order this panel. It can also be used as a general health check-up even in the absence of symptoms, especially for those who might be at risk due to family history, lifestyle, or other factors.
What the Baseline Biomarkers - Basic Panel Checks For
CBC with Differential and Platelets measures the cells that circulate in your blood, providing essential information about overall health. It includes red blood cells, which carry oxygen; white blood cells, which help fight infection; and platelets, which assist in blood clotting. The differential breaks down the different types of white blood cells to help detect signs of infection, inflammation, immune response, or blood disorders. This test offers a foundational view of your body’s blood and immune system status.
Comprehensive Metabolic Panel evaluates key electrolytes, proteins, and enzymes to assess how well your organs and metabolism are functioning. It measures glucose, electrolytes such as sodium and potassium, liver enzymes (ALT, AST, and alkaline phosphatase), and kidney function markers (creatinine and blood urea nitrogen). These values help identify imbalances related to hydration, liver or kidney performance, blood sugar regulation, and overall metabolic health.
Lipid Panel with Ratios measures total cholesterol, HDL (“good”) cholesterol, LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, and triglycerides to evaluate heart and vascular health. The included cholesterol ratios—such as total cholesterol/HDL and LDL/HDL—provide additional insight into cardiovascular risk. Abnormal lipid levels or ratios can indicate an increased risk of atherosclerosis, heart attack, or stroke, making this test an important tool for preventive health assessment.
TSH measures the hormone released by the pituitary gland that regulates thyroid activity. This test helps identify thyroid disorders such as hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, which can affect metabolism, energy levels, weight, and overall hormonal balance.
Diseases or Conditions the Baseline Biomarkers - Basic Panel Can Detect
-
Anemias or Polycythemia: A CBC can detect low or high red blood cell counts, which might suggest conditions like anemia or polycythemia.
-
Infections or Leukemia: A CBC can also identify abnormal or immature cells, suggesting infections, inflammation, or even leukemia.
-
Liver or Kidney Disease: The Comprehensive Metabolic Panel can indicate malfunctions in the liver or kidneys.
-
Heart Disease Risk: Elevated cholesterol or triglyceride levels in the lipid panel can indicate a risk for cardiovascular diseases.
-
Thyroid Disorders: An abnormal TSH level can indicate an overactive or underactive thyroid, conditions known as hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, respectively.
Getting A Deeper Understanding of Your Health
While the Baseline Biomarkers - Basic panel provides a broad overview of general health, there are additional tests in the Basic Plus, Advanced, and Comprehensive panels that offer more specific and detailed information.
Baseline Biomarkers - Basic Plus Panel: This panel extends the foundational tests in the Basic panel by including tests related to iron storage, liver enzyme activity, blood sugar regulation, and others. This is especially beneficial for those who might be at risk of diabetes or liver conditions.
Baseline Biomarkers - Advanced Panel: Building further, the Advanced panel includes high-sensitivity CRP (a marker of inflammation), vitamin D status, and a more comprehensive look at thyroid and metabolic functions. It is ideal for those who wish to have an in-depth understanding of their health, particularly relating to thyroid function and inflammation.
Baseline Biomarkers - Comprehensive Panel: As the most exhaustive panel, it brings in tests related to coagulation (fibrinogen activity), autoimmune indicators related to the thyroid, and a rare but relevant thyroid metric, T3 Reverse. This is perfect for those who want a comprehensive health overview or have complex health concerns.
The Baseline Biomarkers - Basic panel serves as an invaluable tool for gauging general health, evaluating potential risks, and identifying underlying medical conditions. By assessing various metrics ranging from blood cell counts to thyroid activity, it offers a foundational snapshot of one's physiological status. However, for a more intricate understanding or specific concerns, delving deeper with the Basic Plus, Advanced, or Comprehensive panels can provide nuanced insights.
